Williamsburg Summer Theater Week

July 23-27, 2012

Monday-Friday 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM

At the Anne T. Dunphy School

With a free community performance on the evening of Friday, July 27.

Fee for the week: $125 for one child. $200 for families with two children participating.

Please contact the recreation commission at burgyrec@gmail.com for questions about the fee, as we want many children to be able to participate if they are interested.

Age of children: Children who are entering 1st grade through entering 8th Grade in the Fall of 2012.

Activities: Over the course of one week the children will learn and produce a musical version of a hilarious adaptation of “And the Dish Ran Away with the Spoon,” a book written by Janet Stevens & Susan Stevens Crummel . There are opportunities for several types of roles in this show, and the children will have the opportunity to help write songs for some of the characters. Roles include the grouchy Dog, sleepy Cow, fiddling Cat, Little Boy Blue, the Wolf, Dish, Spoon, etc. Plenty of non-singing roles will be available. In addition to on-stage roles of varying size, children will also have the opportunity to create sets, props & costumes from start to finish. Children do not need to know how to read from a script in order to participate. Even if your child does not want to perform on stage, there are backstage opportunities. Fun outdoor activities will also occur throughout the day. Parents/guardians do not need to be present during the activities. Please provide snacks and lunch for your child/children.

Leaders: Kimberly Overtree, a performing arts and math teacher at The Ethel Walker School in CT, who has her Masters in musical theater and most recently directed Oklahoma for the Hatfield Education Foundation, and Pamela Plumer, a Haydenville resident and mother of three, who has her Ph.D. in school psychology. Additionally, there will be a number of high school students assisting during the entire week.
